Our Mission

We believe home should feel like the place you can exhale.

A home should do more than look beautiful. It should feel grounding, personal, restorative — a place that reflects who you are and supports the way you want to live.

That belief is at the heart of everything we do.

Through thoughtful design, considered craftsmanship, and a deeply personal approach, we create homes that feel layered, elevated, and entirely their own. From the architecture and materials to the furnishings and final details, every decision is made with intention.

Because for us, true luxury is not about excess. It’s about creating a home that feels deeply considered, beautifully lived in, and unmistakably yours.

How It All Began

Yes, we really did meet in high school.

Long before Skye Design existed, we were buying homes, living in them, renovating them from top to bottom, and eventually selling them — often for more than twice what we had originally paid.

At the time, we weren’t thinking about building a design business. We were simply obsessed with seeing what a home could become.

We learned early that thoughtful design wasn’t just about making something beautiful. The right changes could completely transform how a home lived, how it felt, and ultimately, what it was worth.

One property became another, and then another. Over the years, we remodeled, renovated, built, flipped, furnished, and reimagined dozens of homes. What started as a personal passion slowly became the work we were meant to do.

Malia followed the creative side into interior design, developing a style rooted in warmth, restraint, natural materials, and spaces that feel collected rather than decorated. Lance took the other side of the equation — construction, problem solving, and craftsmanship — and became a licensed general contractor.

Today, those two worlds come together.

"Make beauty wherever I go"- Mamuse

That lyric found me years ago and never left. It still feels like the simplest way to explain both how I design and how I try to move through the world.

I’ve always been deeply affected by my surroundings. A beautiful, calm space changes something in me — it quiets my mind, grounds me, makes me feel more at ease. I think that’s why I’ve never seen design as simply making things beautiful. Our homes have the power to change the way we feel and the way we live.

To me, home should be your refuge. It shouldn’t feel like a showroom or someone else’s idea of what beautiful is. It should feel collected, comfortable, deeply personal — and somehow just right.

That feeling of right is something I come back to again and again. I think of it as pono — a Hawaiian idea rooted in balance, integrity, and doing what feels genuinely true. Maybe it’s also part of my roots. My mother was an interior designer in Honolulu, so design was simply in the air growing up. I learned early to notice the details, but more importantly, to notice how a space makes you feel.

Twenty-five years later — from our first renovations in California to opening my own design studio and shop here in Central Oregon. I still get excited by the possibility of a space — seeing what it could become, finding the unexpected detail, and watching it all come together in a way that just feels right.

I get to make beauty for a living. I don’t take that for granted. And I’d be honored to make something beautiful with you.

XOXO, Malia
